| Fighting Sioux take
two By
Matt Hayes
Northern Light reporter
The
defending National Champions University of North
Dakota hockey team took advantage of Seawolf team
that hadn't played a game in two weeks. The
Fighting Sioux won both Friday and Saturday
night's games at the Sullivan Arena.
|
| Relying
on the high-scoring line of Ryan Bayda, Jeff
Panzer and Bryan Lundbohm North Dakota won 4-2 in
Friday's opener and secured a 3-0 victory in
Saturday's finale. Panzer
scored two Friday goals and assisted on a third.
Panzer scored a first period power-play goal
Saturday and Bayda's goal 27 seconds into the
second period gave North Dakota a 2-0 lead. Corey
Hessler and Chris Sikich scored in the second and
third periods respectively Friday to keep the
Seawolves in the game.

| The
Fighting Sioux took advantage of the power play
in Friday's game when Aaron Schneekloth scored
just 18 seconds after Hessler received two
minutes for high sticking in the first period.
Panzer's first goal Friday came in the second
period, nine seconds after Mike Scott went to the
box for a cross-check. These
guys can score fast. Seawolf announcer Lyle Woods
called them "games of inches." The
Seawolves couldn't buy a break all weekend,
losing many near goals. The puck moves an inch
one way or the other and it's a different game.
The
Seawolves tied North Dakota's shots on goal
Friday with 25 but fell behind 30-21 Saturday.
The `Wolves host Denver on Friday and Saturday,
Dec. 8 and 9, at the Sullivan Arena.
