Cross-country
Wilderness marathon no match for Schwoerer
Former Seawolf All-American Toby Schwoerer finished first in the
18th annual Crow Pass Crossing. The race, sponsored by UAA’s
Milers Booster Club, is approximately 24 miles, covering the distance
between Girdwood and Eagle River. Racers climb almost 4,000 feet
to Crow Pass and follow the Eagle River through Chugach State Park,
finishing at the Eagle River Nature Center. Schwoerer completed
the race in 3 hours, 8 minutes, 27 seconds. The dual sport standout
completed his Seawolf athletic career this year earning his fourth
and fifth All-American honors at the NCAA Ski Championships in March.
In May, Schwoerer was awarded the UAA’s Athlete of the Year
award for the second consecutive year.
Defending champion Harlow Robinson finished four and a half minutes
behind Schwoerer for second place. Francis Cosgrave was third in
3:24:41, and former UAA dual sport athlete Benji Uffenbeck finished
fourth in 3:26:39. Abigail Larsen was the top women’s finisher
in 4:05:34, and Julie Udchachon was second in 4:09:59.
