2004 Science for Alaska Lecture Series

The UAF Geophysical Institute and the University of Alaska Foundation will be presenting weekly lectures that are free to the public. Lectures will be every Monday at 7:15 p.m. in the UAA Wendy Williamson Auditorium for six weeks.

“Born Yesterday” at Cyrano’s

“Born Yesterday” comedy showing at Cyrano’s Off Center House Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 7 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m. Runs through Feb. 15. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12.50 for students with valid ID. For more information, call 274-2599.

Open Mic Night at Humpy’s

This is your chance to strut your stuff every Monday at 8:30 p.m.

Organic Oasis Open Mic

Come jam the healthy way every Tuesday from 7:30-10:30 p.m.

Open Mic at Snow City

The first and third Sunday of the month, show off at Snow City Cafe from 7-10 p.m. All acoustic acts are welcome. Cover charge is $2.

Valley Open Mic

Grab your ID and truck it out to the Great Bear Brewing Company, 238 North Boundary Ave. in Wasilla for its open mic night every Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Sounds of the Underground

An alternative to music at Koot’s, AK This Month’s “Sounds of the Underground” features different DJs on Thursday evenings at 10 p.m. at the Alley. For times and information, call 646-2222.

The Family Club Meeting

Live Jazz

Come listen to a variety of jazz styles at the Jazz Week Benefit Concert. Scholarship Workshop

Dr. Roy Poole from the UAA Advising and Counseling Center will be talking about scholarship opportunities as UAA from 11:45 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. in the Business Education Building, room 112. UAA Residence Hall Blood Bowl Challenge

Come give blood at the 4th Annual Blood Bowl challenge. UAA will compete against UAF and UAS to see who can save the most lives. Free Blood Bowl T-shirts will be given to all who come in to donate. Art Show - Opening reception in the Campus Center Gallery. Show runs from Feb. 5 through Feb. 19. This exhibit features the 2-D work of outstanding UAA art Students. Works are selected by the UAA art faculty based on several styles including: drawing, painting, photography, computer art, illustration and graphic design. Friday, Feb. 6

KRUA Concert - KRUA is bringing the local love with monthly concerts at the UAA Den. The first of this string of all ages shows will feature Delmag, Jeb and The BrothersContra. Admisssion is $7. The event is co-sponsored by the Northern Light.

Frank McCourt Book Signing and Lecture - Pulitzer Prize-winning author, Frank McCourt will be signing books at the UAA Bookstore from 3-4:30 p.m. As a special public kick-off for UAA’s 50th Anniversary, he will speak at 7:30 p.m. in UAA’s Wendy Williamson Auditorium.

Saturday, Feb. 7

Comedian - Comedian Preacher Moss will be performing in the Campus Center Den at 8 p.m. Tickets are $3 for UAA students with valid ID Regular admission is $7. Through laughter, respect, and humility, Moss plays to the hearts and minds of college students by speaking honestly about racism.

Mardi Gras Ball - Delectable Cajun cuisine, beads galore, Dixieland music, a parade, and the crowing of the Mardi Gras King and Queen all take place at the Anchorage Symphony League Mardi Gras Ball to benefit the Anchorage Symphony Orchestra. Cocktails start at 6:30 p.m. and dinner is at 7:30 p.m. at the Hotel Captain Cook Discovery Ballroom. After dinner, dance to the sounds of Soul Man Sam. For reservations or more information, contact Jeanne Davis at 346-4540 or Pete Nelson at 345-3300. Tickets are $75 each.
